Snow Leopards are some of the most difficult animals to spot in the wild. They usually live at altitudes over 15,000-16,000ft in summers and prey mostly on Bharals or Mountain goats, Ibex.
During the winters, all their prey come down to lower altitudes in search of grass, and with them, the snow leopards too start descending. That is the best chance for us to sight them. India has approximately 500-600 snow leopards. Along with the Snow leopards, you also get to witness the Buddhist civilizations of Ki Monastery and the winters of Spiti Valley. In recent times, Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary has been a great spot to find Snow Leopards, the Himalayan Red Fox, Blue Sheep, Himalayan Ibex, and other mammals. It is also an abode to several species of birds like the Golden Eagle, different species of vultures, and many other birds.
Best Time to Visit for Snow Leopards: From January to March.
Itinerary
Day 1: 31 Jan 2026 : Chandigarh to Rampur:
Early morning pick up from the hotel/Airport and drive to Rampur in Himachal Pradesh (Approx. 250 km /7-8 hrs. drive) overnight stay in Rampur.
Day 2: 1 Feb 2026: Rampur to Tabo:
Early morning check-out from the hotel and drive to Tabo. As it’s a really long and scenic journey, you might feel tempted to stop at various corners to click photos but, we would like to make sure you reach on time. (Approx. 250 km / 6 -7 hrs.)
Day 3: 2 Feb 2026: Tabo to Kibber:
In between, we will get to Kaza. It is the district HQ of Spiti. Kaza is where the market is located along with ATM, petrol pump, shops, tourist information center, bus-stop, cafes, bike rentals etc. Kaza is a bustling tourist town in summers. Most of Kaza is closed in winters. From Kaza we depart for Kibber; on the way to Kibber, you will visit the Ki-Monastery. After the monastery tour, we will go further up the road to reach our destination KIBBER Village. In Kibber, you will be assigned to your rooms, and given a brief orientation of the team who would be with you, on the field and in the hotel. Norling Homestay Kibber will be your home for the next few days. On this day, you would be requested to take complete rest as the coming days would involve extreme trekking in the snow and at a high altitude.
Day 4 to Day 8: 3 to 7 Feb 2026: Snow Leopard Tracking
Spend the next five days tracking snow leopards. Learn about snow leopard conservation efforts and the local ecosystem, and enjoy opportunities for wildlife spotting and photography.
Day 9: 8 Feb 2026: Kibber to Rampur:
Take rest tonight as you have had an adventurous experience in the higher Himalayas. Spend the rest of the night relaxing at Rampur, enjoying delicious food and celebrating.
Day 10: 9 Feb 2026: Rampur to Chandigarh:
Early morning departure from Rampur for Chandigarh (Approx. 250 KM / 7 - 8 Drive) Drop at Chandigarh airport.
